Journey of the Laundry Room...

I wasn't good about taking pictures of this part of the house when we first moved in...but this room has mainly been used as storage for the last 20 years, and actually it was never finished. I think the walls were textured and primed, but never painted, and the baseboards and trim was never painted. There has been trim and door jamb pieces sitting in the utility room for 20+ years waiting to be installed. ☺
We moved in this house October 20th, 2013, and Cary then worked on installing gas, plumbing, hookups and then we got our washer and dryer installed about two months later, so these first few pictures were taken in December 2013 moments before we installed the washer and dryer.

August 2014

August 2014
Last spring I took down the wire shelving that was on the back wall, and we had a design plan now so over the months we slowly started buying cabinets, and started with the tall cabinet in the corner.

August is when we cut the hole in the wall for our pass through to the entryway
Yay! Light!

If you know me at all, you know I don't like dark rooms...so something had to be done.

October 2014 - Cary installing the laundry pedestal he built
So my plan was to just buy a new door to the laundry room that had a window. Cary wasn't interested in cutting into the walls to install a window, so that seemed like the easiest solution, but nothing is ever that easy. Turns out our doors are not "stock" size doors, (which means I couldn't just go to HD or Lowes and pick out a door, which was my plan) so we would have to special order a door.($$$), and I just needed a slab because the exterior door jambs on this house are metal and wrap around the wall around the door so we would end up having to ruin about 2-4 inches of the outside stucco to get a new door jamb in  I wasn't interested in spending THAT much money or having it be that big of a deal, I found a place that would cut and install a window in our current door, so that's what we did. Jury is still out on whether that was a good idea or not...;)
Don't get me wrong, I love the door and natural light!
One of my "wants" for this laundry room was a pedestal and I printed off the building plans from Ana White's website back in March for Cary to build (What can I say...I'm a patient person ;) ). We always have a bunch of laundry baskets in the laundry room (or living room) ;)  so I thought it would be nice to have a place to put them.

October 2014

I was trying to decide on paint colors. ☺

There is an electrical panel that has to stay there...☺ obviously, so I "painted" a picture to cover it...bahahaha
so I had Kenneth re-do it for me.
I have positive happy things framed in the laundry room right now because I need to know it's a good day, even though there is always laundry to do. ☺

Our ironing cabinet landed here, and then we will have some hooks on the 1x4.

Last, but not least...our counter top for folding clothes. It is made out of old boards that have been stained...this project was a great source of contention and heated battles in this house so we're curious what you think of it. ☺

And some more pictures of the entryway area because we finally got some things up.

So nice to be able to just close the doors on all of this!
