The rear entryway...progress and pictures.

We'll start at the very beginning... when my family moved into this house in 1992, the rear entryway was actually just a porch that was covered with a roof. In 2001? (we're not totally sure of the date because Kenneth and I did not live there at this point) mom wanted to turn it into an entryway to store all of dad's dairy clothes and boots. Great idea!
My grandpa Heber and Gerry Childs enclosed it, and on the side where we just installed the new door, was a little window. The major problem being that where they put the door was too short so they cut down an interior (hollow) door there. So in reality, that room was way too cold in the winter to store coats and boots because there was no heat source, and the gap under the door let in many moths and critters. Dad once found a dead bat in his overalls.
Fast forward to us moving in, I knew we'd need to make what was mom and dad's storage room, into our laundry room. There really wasn't anywhere else to put the washer and dryer, so I knew that I'd like to seal up the entryway, get a new door, and knock out a pass through (or door) into the utility room to get to the laundry room. I loved this plan, Cary did not. ☺ Part of the issue was that we were pretty sure there was a gas line running through the wall that we were wanting to cut through, so that would be a major job as well as installing a new door.
Anyway, in measuring things out, we discovered that the current entry door was way too short and that we'd have to custom order a door to properly fit there, that wasn't in our budget so that's why we moved the new door over to the side. The plan was to reuse the small window that was there and put it where the old door was.
So Cary was still dreading this job, and after 6+ months of being separated from my laundry room (I know, first world problem) I was ready to get it done!
My uncle Tim was here around the end of June and I know he always likes a project, so I jokingly told him we had a door for him to install while he was visiting. He showed up at our door ready to work, so Cary and Tim got the door installed (Alex may have helped, I can't remember). Picture me doing a happy dance! This project was finally kick started.
We had two doors for awhile. ;)
I didn't get any "before" pictures of the entryway, because at that point it was the forgotten room, but these were taken right after Cary and Tim installed our new door.

The wall that we were wanting to cut through still had stucco on it from when it was an exterior wall. We thought about being lazy and just leaving it with stucco, but Kenneth would not allow that, ;) (mostly kidding) so it all came down.

Kenneth, Alex and Cary had to redo all the electrical for this room, and added an exterior light and an outlet.

Now it was time to move gas line so we could cut through the wall, and when Cary cut away the sheet rock there was no gas line in that wall! (more happy dancing)

So our original plan had been to reuse the small window that was already in this room, but when Cary was moving it at some point one of the panes just fell out and smashed on the ground. Kenneth encouraged me to get a much larger window, and if you know me...I don't really need encouragement in getting larger (or more!) windows. ☺ Can't have too much natural light...

Yay! I was so excited at this point.
I can see my laundry room, hallelujah!

With the lights off it was SO dark back there.

 We have a window.

Cary really didn't want to deal with mudding and taping sheet rock, so I had looked at different options, and decided I wanted to give the wood plank look a try, but the more subtle version. ;)
I know, some of you are really disappointed that I painted over the wood look, but we wrapped the beam and then I stained it so there is still a touch of the wood look in the room.

As you can see, we're still not done... I need to hang up hooks and what not, but with this door way we are still deciding if we want it to be a pass through or if we're going to put a door there.
