Sometimes Cary is horrified by the stuff that I post.
Like yesterday when I posted pictures of the house.
He thought if I was going to post pictures like that, I should have atleast made it very well known that the house will still not look like that. (hopefully)
A few weeks ago, we watched the movie "Emma" (the new one with Johnny Lee Miller in it) and that inspired Cary to read Pride and Prejudice.
Now he wants to see the movie and needs to know which version to see. I told him that in order to get the full Jane Austen experience that he should watch the A&E version with Colin Firth.
Which version would you tell him to watch?

If he read (and liked) the book, he should watch the A&E one with Colin Firth. It follows the book closely and is done very well. (The BBC one is from the 80s and has the most dreadful acting imaginable!) The newest version with Kiera Knightly is good but certainly does not try to follow the book very closely in almost all the most important places.
Also... if he waits until next year sometime, Masterpiece Theater will be releasing a new version of it, and I expect it will be awesome. I've really loved all their Austen pieces so far - especially the Emma you mentioned.
I'm with Cary. ;) And I hope you generally ask him before you post things about him too. :)
Also, I'm with Sharon. While there are many things about the newer movie that are better (the casting), the older one definitely follows the book more closely. Of course, it had plenty of time to do so, since it was 5 hours long. :)
I was thinking the one with Colin Firth was the BBC, but guess not. I'll edit that. (I don't remember the acting being that bad in the BBC one, but it's been awhile) ☺ Sharon, does anyone own the A&E version?
I'm pretty sure he doesn't want to wait until next year since he's having a hard time waiting a week or so...
I do, well I should say Susan does.
I know I'm the only one is this group...but I DON'T like the A&E one, but mostly it's because other that Colin Firth, I can't stand the casting. No one is how I picture them. Elizabeth looks way too old.
But like I said...I know I'm in my own group here.
I know the new one doesn't follow the story at all, but I LOVE it. The cinemaphotography is awesome! And I really like the casting as well.
Rose, I can certainly handle Elizabeth better than Jane, who is supposed to be the great beauty but definitely isn't. The newer one, as I said above, did a much better job with casting. Maybe the Masterpiece Theater one will have the best of both worlds and make a movie that both follows the book and has a good cast. :)
I hope so! They (masterpiece theater) did a great job with Emma.
I own the Pride & Prejudice with Keira Knightley and like it. I do remember the Colin Firth one and it was alright. I would have him watch both and see which one that her likes best;o)

We'll probably end up watching both, and then hopefully the new one coming out in a year or so. ☺
