Winter Continues

The last weekend of January we got to meet Sienna when Noah and Abby brought her to be blessed.

Most of the weekend looked like this...
and we had a birthday party that Sunday afternoon and the roads looked like this. We were glad to have Cary's 4WD truck...I don't think we would have made it back home
Sunday night after we got home from the birthday party and Cary cleared off our patio area. Then it snowed and the wind blew all night, so in the morning there was some crazy drifting. Cary didn't end up driving in for work that Monday, and the kids had a snow day with no school.

Almost two weeks later we still have a lot of snow!

Sickness has been rampant and Ella started complaining about her ear hurting while we were watching the Super Bowl, and she ended up missing 3 days of school with earaches and fever this week! We took her to the doctor on Wednesday, but she wasn't really back to being herself until Friday and then Aidan was running a fever! Aaaaah. Is it Spring yet?

This is on the south side of my house and the snow has melted close to the house, but we've had some radiation fog settling in and getting the cool looking frost on everything.

Yesterday when I was driving to Baker, I saw the fog starting to settle back in, so I took a picture...

and then on my way back home, the fog had covered EskDale and was headed straight towards me...such a creepy/cool feeling. ☺

I'm grateful for the cold and moisture but I'm sure going to appreciate spring when it arrives! :)

Baby Goats

Janille discovered that one of her goats had a baby on one of our coldest mornings this year.
I took the younger two kids over to see the one baby (Penny) on a morning they didn't have school.

Penny is not supposed to have droopy ears, but they got frost bitten, and so did one of her legs and now has a little bit of gangrene so they have to worry about the leg dying. :(

Then about an hour after we left, Janille discovered that another one of her goats had twins!
Then her other goat had twins, so she has 5 babies.
Last Sunday, I took all of the kids over so they could see the baby goats, and so that I could see the baby goats.
They are so cute!

Snow, snow, snow (January 2016)

This winter has been very different than last winter since we've been getting some healthy snow storms. We had a nice one at the end of December that was still melting and then we got another nice storm the second week of January.

 Before the storm

The first day of the storm.

The first day of the storm

I spent about 3 hours shoveling snow that day and there was a lot of ice under the snow. My mom was walking from Doug and Karma's house to her house and she was talking to me while I was shoveling and said, "Oh, it looks like someone slipped and fell here!" and then she slipped and fell in the exact same spot. She didn't get hurt but we found out that Doug was the one that slipped and fell and he hit the back of his head and is now currently in the hospital battling bleeding on the brain.

It started snowing again in the afternoon...
and we woke up to this! ☺
It was measuring close to 10" on top of the cats' house, but later on in the day I measured away from the house and it was closer to 13"-15".

It was so pretty but I was so done with shoveling snow, so Cary went out and shoveled for a little bit, but it's a big job to shovel when there is that much snow so it was mostly creating trails to walk through instead cleaning off the entire sidewalk.

Saturday morning a few days after the big storm, the sun was coming up and shining on the mountains so I went outside to take pictures in my robe, coat, and snow boots, and then I noticed that Teresa was out there in her nightgown and boots taking pictures too. It was -5 degrees that morning too so apparently, we're both a little crazy. ☺

It's been over two weeks and we still have a lot of snow on the ground...but we're finally getting a few days above freezing so it's starting to melt some.
