Thanksgiving 2011

As usual with these posts, it's heavy on the decorating photos and not so much people. The decorations don't whine about being fat or making funny faces. ☺ Ok, but really it's kind of hard taking too many pictures once everyone arrives and you're eating.
These were taken at the brunch that morning. This year the high school hosted a "Turkey Trot" 5K or 10K race, early in the morning, but we weren't involved with that this year. We were enjoying a rare, relaxed morning at home.

Ken and I had too much going on this Fall and we were having a really hard time with coming up with how to decorate this year. The creative juices were just not flowing. I'm not gonna lie (I have been watching way to much Yo Gabba Gabba) it's not my favorite setup that we've ever done, but it turned out alright.

This year is the first year that I've spent Thankgiving without my parents. They headed down to Phoenix to be with my dad's family, and they were supposed to take Grandpa, but he decided last minute that he wanted to stay home. We've been keeping our eye on him and made sure he made it to the dinner. ☺

Oh, the pie. Apple, pumpkin, pecan, strawberry-rhubarb, peach-raspberry, lemon, banana pudding, etc... how is a person supposed to choose? I'm not gonna lie (see? Too much Yo Gabba Gabba) turkey dinner is just "meh" to me. I can easily turn down the mashed potatoes and gravy, and the yams and sweet potatoes don't even make it to my plate. ☺ So really, Thanksgiving dinner is all about the dressing and pie for me.

It was a very pretty day.

Making Pie!

My New Year resolution is to post more...oh, wrong holiday.
Like most places, it's an EskDale tradition to make pies for Thanksgiving dinner on Wednesday afternoon. We didn't have that many of us helping this year, but we still had a lot of fun and made somewhere around 40 pies.
I posted a lot of pictures, but some of them made me laugh so they all had to be included. ☺

Funny Boy! (Nine months old)

My little charmer.
We took him in for his 6 month check up last week. (Yes, three months late)
I'm on it.
He only weighed 17 lbs 3 oz, and he's about 28 inches tall. So he's right on target for being one of our kids. ☺ (Our pediatrician is like 7 ft tall, so I'm really little to him)
Britton is so mobile that all his baby fat seems to be missing.
He popped two teeth. Finally.
(For an update about our sleeping saga in one of last posts: Britton ended up sleeping well and Ella was the one keeping me up all night. Thankfully, we had just unpacked our books so I found the book "Healthy Sleep Habits for Happy Children"  or something like that. It's a book that our pedi recommended when Aidan was little, and it's been helping us get the kids back on a better sleeping track! I've noticed a huge difference in their behavior, and mine. ;) )
 Back to Britton --
He's soooo close to walking, and if I'm being honest I'm kind of dreading it. He's growing up way too fast and already getting into everything! ☺
For now he settles with crawling, but he's pretty fast and so I tell him he looks like a little bug speeding along on the floor. The older kids think that's pretty funny.

Of course, he's a momma's boy right now so it's fun to snuggle with him while he'll allow it.
This kid is funny. He makes me laugh every day.
I'm not sure I've ever seen a baby drool so much. Seriously.
I bought him an amber teething necklace and it was supposed to solve all of our problems: teething pain, drooling, make him sleep through the night, never cry, etc... so far no dice. (No, I didn't really believe it would do all that) ☺ It was worth a shot.
The bigger question is "When will you have hair?" He's got a little bit of fuzz, so we'll see. Aidan had his first haircut when he was 2.5 yrs old. ☺ So we could have a long way to go.

Things That Could Make You Feel Old...

So this year, I've had a cousin that was one of my first babysitting jobs got married, and then Megan turned 11 last week. That makes me feel old because I was old enough that I was the one taking care of Alyshia and Caleb while Tom and Janille were in the hospital. (and that was 11 years ago. Ay yi!)
And now I have 3 babies of my own.
Old.
Arthritus in my fingers.
Old.
Anyway, Tom and Janille had us over for cake and ice cream in honor of Megan.
Britton was sporting his teething necklace on. He gets teased about that a lot.
Not that he knows that.
